Guides
Editorial policy
Our guides explain the numbers behind decisions in small agencies and studios, and in Australian trades and allied-health practices. This page says how they are made and checked, so you can judge them for yourself.
Who we are
Metricvalley is an Australian business that makes spreadsheet templates for small agencies and studios. Metricvalley publishes these guides and is responsible for what they say. Seller details are in our terms, and our templates are tested under the Testing Standard.
What every guide must do
- Answer one question for one kind of business.
- Show the arithmetic. Most guides work through a fictional business, labeled as fictional, with every step shown so you can check it with a calculator.
- Use only figures we can trace. A figure is either from a source we cite, with the date we read it, or from the fictional example.
- Prefer primary sources: tax offices, central banks, regulators and statistics agencies. When we use a reference site, a summary or a vendor page, we say so.
From October 2, 2026, every new guide also has a section on what its method doesn't do and who to ask when a decision depends on your situation. Guides published before then gain that section when they are next updated.
How each guide is checked
From October 2, 2026, every new or updated guide is checked against our editorial standard before it is published. It goes live only when all of these checks pass:
- Arithmetic. Every figure in the worked example is recomputed from its inputs. A guide can't go live with a mismatch.
- Sources. Every cited page is opened before publishing, and the date we read or checked it is shown next to it in the guide's sources.
- Wording. The text is searched for the terms our standard rules out, such as hype words, urgency wording, and our own prices and terms typed into the text outside a dated price comparison.
- Structure. The guide follows our template: one question, a labeled fictional example, a section on what the method doesn't do, and a list of sources.
- Site check. The site's strict build check passes with no errors and no warnings. It catches broken links, missing page details and dates that don't match.
- Checklist. The guide is checked against a pre-publish checklist that covers readability, overlap with existing guides and how products are mentioned.
If any check fails, the guide isn't published.
The guides published before October 2, 2026 were re-checked that day: every worked-example figure was recomputed, and every source link was opened.
What our guides are not
They are general information. They are not financial, tax, payroll or legal advice, and they don't know your circumstances. Where a decision depends on your situation, check it with a qualified adviser, such as your accountant or lawyer.
Our templates
Metricvalley sells spreadsheet templates. A guide mentions one only where it does the job the guide describes, and the guide's method works without it. Templates that aren't on sale yet are labeled "in progress", with no date or price. Workbooks we are only researching say so, with no date or price.
Dates and updates
Each guide shows the day it was first published. When we change a guide's facts, figures, advice or method, or add or remove a section, we add an "Updated" date and a line in its update history saying what changed. Fixing a typo or a link, or rewording a sentence without changing its meaning, doesn't change the date. Guides with dated facts, such as prices, rates or thresholds, carry a review date, and they are flagged for a re-check on that date.
Corrections
If you find an error, email [email protected]. We reply within 1 business day, Monday to Friday, Australian Eastern time. When we confirm an error, we correct the guide and add a dated note to its update history.
Independence
Metricvalley is independent. We are not paid to mention any product, and our guides carry no affiliate links, sponsored mentions or third-party advertising.
